What is Zeolite?
Zeolite Zeolite is a natural or produced microporous mineral with good adsorption and ion exchange qualities. Regarding pressure swing adsorption (PSA) oxygen generators, it will be seen that zeolite is used as the important adsorbent in which the selective removal of nitrogen in air is possible and consequently the high purity oxygen is obtained.
How Zeolite Works?
The air consists of about 78 percent nitrogen, and 21 percent oxygen. In PSA oxygen generator the compressed air is adsorbed over zeolite filled adsorption tower.
Nitrogen molecules are absorbed into zeolite and oxygen is being passed through as the product gas.
- Selective Adsorption: The crystalline structure of zeolite encompasses even pores that confine nitrogen depending on the size and polarity of the molecules.
- Pressure Swing Process: When the zeolite is loaded with nitrogen, the pressure markedly falls and the nitrogen comes out to renew the zeolite. The cycle of adsorption and desorption takes place in order to provide constant input of oxygen.

Benefits of Zeolite in Oxygen generators High Oxygen Purity:
Zeolite helps PSA generators to generate oxygen at high purity of 90 percent to 95 percent and which qualify to be used in medicine and industries.
Stable Performance: Good quality of zeolite means stable performance, and prolonged service life of the generator.
Cost of working: Zeolite based PSA systems are economical compared to cryogenic systems or have external oxygen supply.
On-Demand Generation: Zeolite provides on-site on-demand oxygen generation to enhance safety and logistical issues.

Kinds of Zeolite Employed
Some typical zeolites employed in PSA of oxygen generation are:
- Zeolite 5A
- LiX Zeolite (Lithium-based) – to achieve greater efficiencies of adsorption and energy savings
At Berg GaseTech, we do this by using high-grade zeolite to guarantee maximum efficiency, purity and the life of our PSA oxygen generating systems.
Zeolite ZEO 13X
Zeolite Type ZEO 13X is an effective adsorption material used in oxygen generators. It acts as a molecular sieve, separating oxygen molecules from other gases in the air by adsorbing nitrogen and other gases. This process generates a stream of pure oxygen, essential for various applications. ZEO 13X is crucial in medical settings for patients needing pure oxygen and is also employed in industries like welding and metalworking, where high oxygen concentrations are required. ZEO 13X is widely recognised for its reliability and efficiency in producing pure oxygen.
Every PSA oxygen generator revolves around zeolite. Very compact and directing formation of oxygen due to its molecular sieving capacity facilitates clean and efficient production of oxygen direct form ambient air. Whether it is to be used in medicine, industry, or environmentally (medical, industrial, environmental), zeolite guarantees reliable high throughput of oxygen in low-cost operations.
